Sometimes I’m in the mood to read a book that’s a little bit taboo and a whole lot of naughty fun. When I saw that Uncle Ed’s Lap by Parker Ford was up for review, I had a feeling it would be just the ticket as a part of my “guilty pleasures” reading. I was happily surprised that not only is the sexual chemistry between the main characters extremely hot; the emotional connection between them was also heartfelt, and it had a bittersweet element to the story that stayed with me long after I finished it. When Fiona’s favorite Aunt Carol suddenly passed away, she immediately moved in with her Uncle Ed to help him through his grief and to keep him company through this tough time. As a child, Fiona would spend her summers with her beloved Aunt and Uncle. Because they were childless, they doted on the young Fiona and often treated her like the daughter they never had. Fiona has always had a bit of a crush on her Uncle. He’s kind, intelligent, handsome and sexy and everything Fiona has ever wanted in a man. Fiona has always been able to control the sexual attraction and love she feels for her Uncle Ed under control, but as each day passes, it becomes harder to hide the forbidden feelings she has for him.
Edward is fighting a losing battle. Although he’s always loved his wife, Edward has always had a deep connection with Fiona. Since she’s been staying with him, it’s been almost impossible to keep the taboo desires and budding love he’s feeling for her to himself.
As Fiona and her Uncle Ed spend more time together, the desire and the emotional pull they have for one another becomes harder to deny. Once they give into the passion they feel for one another is when they’ll be able to work through the guilty feelings they have and have a chance at spending their lives happily together.
There is so much more to Uncle Ed’s Lap than meets the eye. I think it’s important to point out that Fiona is not blood related to Edward. They are related only by his marriage to her aunt. Both Fiona and Edward must deal with many issues before they are able to come to terms with the change of their relationship. For one thing, there is the age difference. Fiona is about to go move away to go to college and Edward is a middle aged man. There are times in the book that it’s very obvious that Fiona can be very childish and immature, but as many young adults are she also can be very mature and act much older than her age. Edward is definitely a good influence over her and she looks up to him for guidance and positive reinforcement.
Both Fiona and Edward are grief-stricken and feel very guilty about their feelings for each other. For a short story, I thought that this issue was handled pretty well. It was easy to see that both of them were working through their forbidden desires and feelings for each other. Neither character takes this issue lightly. Both have heavy moments of guilt and shame, but this soon grows into love and acceptance which enables them to take a chance on building a life together.
There are a lot of sex scenes in this story. The sexual chemistry and undeniable attraction between Fiona and Edward is extremely intense throughout the book. I think it’s important to note that there are some light BDSM themed elements to the story as well. There is some spanking, asphyxiation, bondage and some very naughty role play. Even though this book is written in Fiona’s narrative, experiencing the sexual tension and the budding sexual relationship through her eyes only made the scenes that much hotter.
“My Uncle Ed’s Lap” has a pretty satisfying ending. I was left with the feeling that they are about to slowly start allowing people to realize that they are now a couple. But, honestly I couldn’t help but wonder if the age difference will be their downfall in the end. Not to mention how the other members of their family and society will react. I would love to read a sequel about this couple. It would be great to see how everything turns out in the end. I hope they have what it takes to preservere through any issues they will have, but only time will tell.
Parker Ford is a new author for me and I’m really looking forward to reading more books written by her.
