It was supposed to be a quiet afternoon on the beach for Julie and Laura, but that afternoon would forever change their lives.  Julie has begun to suffer from debilitating headaches and Laura has become convinced that aliens abducted them.  Whatever may or may not have happened, Julie has to admit that something has been terribly wrong since that day.

As if her own problems weren’t confusing enough, her boss Patrick is acting like one of the aliens her sister believes exists.  Gone are the days of partying and in their place is a mature adult with his priorities straight.  Julie has always been attracted to Patrick, but was unwilling to get involved with all his numerous problems.  However, the more time she is spending with Patrick, the more she’s starting to believe he’s changed for good.  Her heart wants her to take a chance on him, but her mind is screaming that it’s too good to be true.   Can she trust her heart and take a chance on him?

Patrick’s priorities in life were sex, drinking and drugs, so it wasn’t exactly a surprise when he suffered from a heart attack at only thirty-five years old.  His recovery can only be described as miraculous and Patrick appears to get serious about his priorities.  Suddenly, he is sober and making all the right lifestyle choices as well as bringing his father’s company back to life.  He’s also taken a renewed interest in Julie and is determined to make her believe he’s really turned his life around.  Will he be able to convince Julie that the Patrick of the past is gone for good or will his previous behavior forever keep her away?

Season of Strangers was a truly unique book with a storyline unlike anything I’ve seen before.  It kept me guessing from the first and it is a great surprise to come across a book with the power to do that.

Julie was a smart, strong woman whose devotion to others always came before herself.  She never gave up on a troublesome and overly dramatic sister and never stopped caring about an unreliable and self-destructive Patrick.  She was a great heroine who was very easy to like.

Patrick, however, had to work for my respect.  I was very concerned in the beginning that Julie would overlook all his behavior and give him a chance and I was extremely relieved when he changed.  I loved how he went through the gamut of emotions as he dealt with new experiences and feelings.  The emotional intensity between him and Julie was pretty powerful and made for an enjoyable love story.  I am certainly looking forward to more from Kat Martin.
